Callsign Mav still top gun as Kiwi mares storm home
Callsign Mav just outlasted Spring Tide for his second straight $220,000 Tarzino Trophy (1400m) in Hastings yesterday. Rider Jonathan Riddell had him in front and he dug deep to fend off a late-surging Spring Tide. Part-Kiwi owned mare Verry Elleegant won the $1.1m George Main Stakes (1600m) at Randwick, a strong late run giving her a ninth G1 win. NZbred mare Sierra Sue, trained by expat Kiwis Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young, took the $1.1m Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.
