Three of the best eateries in Akaroa

Mandala Restaurant
A mandala, among other things, is a circular symbol that establishes a sacred space. Ben Campbell, former bass player for Zed, has created a sacred eating space on Akaroa’s main street. Mandala’s menu is a twirl around Asia, from pani puri and goat curry to kokoda. Don’t leave without trying the warm caramelised apple samosa. Visit mandalaeats.co.nz.
The Little Bistro
In a tiny white villa opposite Akaroa’s village green is this fine-dining eatery, the kind of place you go when you have something to celebrate, or are craving amazing seasonal bistro cuisine, much of it plucked from Akaroa’s waters and hills. You must order the venison medallions with hasselback potatoes, white bean cassoulet and stout jus. Visit thelittlebistro.co.nz.
The Brasserie Kitchen and Bar
Whether you visit for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or drinks, you’re guaranteed a good time at this 100-year-old villa set in landscaped gardens in the heart of Akaroa. Not surprisingly, the Akaroa salmon fillet is scrumptious, as is the vege burger. It also does great fish and chips.
