In the lap of luxury EVs over $80k

While the focus is currently on EVs under the government’s Clean Car Discount cutoff, there are still plenty of EVs over $80,000, with a lot of serious performance and luxury on offer. And some that are just too expensive, writes Damien O’Carroll.

Nothing here will attract a discount under the Clean Car scheme (unless you are an absolutely amazing negotiator, that is), but that is unlikely to bother the buyers of most of them, as the majority are luxury cars that would carry the associated high price tags anyway, regardless of whether they are EVs or not.

That said, price parity with equivalent ICE models in the manufacturer’s respective ranges is far more common up in this rarified price atmosphere, an indication of what we can expect to see filter down to the lower price ranges in due course. Probably faster than most of us expect too.
