Police tactical training in Christchurch, Ashburton
Cantabrians should prepare for loud bangs, sounds of breaking glass and sightings of armed police as officers conduct specialist team training. Police would be undertaking training exercises in New Brighton, Shirley, Riccarton and the Ashburton area throughout next week, a spokeswoman said. ‘‘During the training exercises, there will be a visible police presence in the areas mentioned, including staff carrying firearms. Members of the public in these areas may also hear loud bangs or other noises such as breaking glass coming from the venues. Police would like to reassure the public that there is no cause for alarm.’’ The specialist training was part of tactical training regularly undertaken throughout the country. Police thanked the community and the organisations who had provided facilities for the police to use.
