Taking the biscuit

The Press (July 22) reports that a Christchurch cafe´ is changing the name of ‘‘Afghan’’ biscuits because it might be ‘‘racist’’.

Most people would hope New Zealanders have enough common sense not to join the rest of the world in this woke, virtue-signalling exercise.

Did anyone think to ask members of the New Zealand Afghan community if they thought it was racist or if they felt offended by the name of the biscuit?

If we really must go through this nonsensical process, then let’s make cafes change the names of Belgium biscuits, Swiss roll and French toast as well because they must be racist too. After that we’d better take a look at coffee. ‘‘Flat white’’ could be an issue.
