MIQ system

We hear bitter tales from would-be travellers to NZ who are finding the MIQ booking system almost impossible to operate. If, having spent hours refreshing the MIQ website to secure a slot, they finally hit the jackpot, they then need to find and book a corresponding airfare.

No-one can fly to NZ unless they have both an MIQ voucher and an airline booking. Why not combine those two, by allocating MIQ slots to airlines? That would regulate entry because the airlines would then know how many seats they can fill on each flight.

Perhaps this solution is too simple and user-friendly for a government department to adopt. Ross Boswell, Riccarton
