Invercargill MP drafting submission

Invercargill MP Penny Simmonds is drafting a private members bill as she supports calls for legislation to prohibit people impaired by alcohol from operating recreational boats. ‘‘I am currently drafting a private members bill on this issue and support a similar call from the coroner, in the wake of a boating tragedy on the Hollyford River in March 2019. I have also listened to the pleas of another Southland boating widow, who reiterated to me her concerns about the culture of drinking and boating which exists – not just in the South, but right across the country.’’
