Otorohanga¯ farmers rally

Can I congratulate you on your impeccable reporting of the rally on Friday [July 16] which I attended.

I’m an Auckland urbanite and I went down to join my Hamilton-based friend to show our support for the farmers of your region who are being so badly affected by recent government decisions.

Our rally organiser, Lee Smith, asked the media to report truthfully and you delivered – not only that, it was featured on the front page, unlike our Auckland equivalent, the NZ Herald, which could only manage to put it on page 5. Shame on them. It wasn’t as if there wasn’t a massive turnout here too. At a time when the media are accused of trying to twist the facts, if indeed they report them at all, it is so refreshing to see good journalism.
