Expressway upgrade work

Motorists can expect a stretch of SH1 from south of Rangiriri interchange to south of the O¯ hinewai interchange will be without roadside lighting. Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency said this will happen on the southbound lane from September 27 until the end of October while work continues on upgrading the state highway. To make this section of SH1 safer and more consistent with the rest of SH1 Waikato Expressway, they will be installing roadside barriers to prevent people from running off the road. The roadside lights need to be repositioned to provide room for the new barriers to be installed. A temporary speed limit of 70km/h is already in place to ensure safety of road users and road workers.
