Gang-related attack at petrol station

A Nomads prospect left a man affiliated to another gang with injuries needing hours of surgery after repeatedly stabbing him at a petrol station with a pair of scissors.

In what seemed like an odd sign of respect, the incident ended with the stabbed man shaking hands with someone else allegedly involved in the violent episode.

Nehemaea Miller pleaded guilty in the Palmerston North District Court yesterday to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in relation to the July incident.

Miller, a prospect for the Nomads gang, and two others were at the BP in Levin when they encountered someone wearing Mongrel Mob regalia, also known as colours.

Video of the incident viewed by Stuff shows the Mob man being spotted by Miller’s associates after leaving the service station bathroom.

Miller stayed by the car, using a pair of scissors to open the petrol flap before putting petrol in.

His two associates hassled the Mob man, repeatedly asking him to remove and hand over his colours – a request repeatedly denied.

The incident spilled outside the petrol station’s shop, with the Mob man near the shop windows when Miller drove the car up to the parks nearby.

The video footage shows an associate of Miller’s waving towards the car, which Miller left with a pair of scissors in his left hand.

He repeatedly swung the scissors at the Mob man, the blows aimed towards the head.

He goes back to the car at one stage, only to head back towards the victim before eventually getting in the car.

He and one associate drove away – Miller drove forward into the curb before backing out – with the final associate taking time to shake the victim’s hand before the pair parted ways.

The victim was left with multiple stab wounds to his head, as well as defensive injuries to his arms.

He needed three hours of surgery to reattach the lower part of his nose.

Miller, who appeared in court via an audio-visual link from prison, will be in custody until he is sentenced in March.
