Marlborough’s recovery mahi progresses

Sixty roading crews have been working around the clock since the August 2022 storm event to restore access as soon as it's safe to do so.

Last Thursday crews reached a milestone on Queen Charlotte Drive when a section of the road between Havelock and the Grove Jetty was reopened to the public.

Marlborough Roads Manager, Steve Murrin, said although the road is open a vehicle length restriction of 12.6m still applies. “Temporary speed restrictions and traffic management are also in place as minor works continue. Drivers are urged to travel carefully and expect delays,” he said.

Mr Murrin said the crews are making good progress on the section of Queen Charlotte Drive that remains closed, between the Grove Jetty and Picton, and an update will be made this week.

Anakiwa Road, as far as the Tirimoana Jetty, was also reopened for public access last week. Beyond this point Anakiwa Road remains closed.

The first Mayoral Relief Fund Committee (Residential) meeting was held on Monday 19 September.

Twenty-nine applications for funding were reviewed; three of these require further follow up and more information for the Committee to decide.

Total funds dispersed were $34,050 including a contribution to the community event being organised by the Marlborough Rural Women's Group on 14 October at the Havelock Town Hall.

Port Marlborough are helping the Marlborough Sounds community with short term car parking and berthing at the Picton and Havelock marinas. This will be reviewed beyond September as the busy season approaches.

Please note the Coathanger car park in Picton is not part of Port Marlborough's Picton marina. This is administered separately by Marlborough Roads on behalf of Council and is not included in the above arrangements. Normal parking arrangements apply here.
