Stick to the swing bowling not the singing, boys

IF you hit a speedy century, take a blistering catch or net a five-wicket haul in the Indian Premier League, you can be sure to hit the worldwide headlines. Such is the pulling power of the talentpacked teams.

But the same thing also applies when you make a fool of yourself, and – for three Black Caps Trent Boult, Jimmy Neesham and Daryl Mitchell at the Rajastan Royals – that extends to your decision-making off the pitch.

You can be sure they’re doubting their decision to lip sync and dance to the Bollywood song Aye Meri Zohrajabeen from the hit movie Phir Hera Pheri . . . especially when their efforts (and I use that term completely wrongly!) have now been watched more than 670,000 times on Twitter. (For reference, that’s about the same number of views that Lorde’s album track Oceanic Feeling has got on YouTube.)

Ian Anderson on Stuff used the video as an excuse to roll out his music puns – ‘‘More Oh Geez, than BeeGees’’ and ‘‘ZZ Stop’’ were particular faves – but the last word should probably go to Neesh when it dawned on him what they’d done: ‘‘I’m not gonna say it’s the worst thing I’ve ever done . . . but it’s the worst thing I’ve ever done,’’ Neesham tweeted.

It’s a good thing they can all fall back on their day jobs: The Royals are preparing for the playoffs of the Indian Premier League, and Boult and Mitchell are also required for the Black Caps for three tests against England next month.
