Will Bazball take hold with players?

HE might not love the term, but Brendon McCullum hasn’t banned the term ‘‘bazball’’ from the England players’ dressing room. The new England coach’s style has been a breath of fresh air in the stuffy corridors of power and, according to player Ollie Pope – pictured above with McCullum – has helped turn not only the team around, but also England’s domestic county cricket. ‘‘It’s almost taking weight off the shoulders and trying to make us feel as calm as we possibly can,’’ he told The Times newspaper. ‘‘You are going to get out somehow. It’s almost that it doesn’t matter how you get the runs, just get them. It’s just allowing you to express yourself and allowing you to play the way you want to play.’’ But will they use the word Bazball around the usually laid-back McCullum now he’s come out and said he doens’t like it? ‘‘I know obviously that Brendon is not necessarily a massive fan of the term, but it is pretty cool actually. It’s not banned... I think the boys just loved it and that time [when MCCullum started] was a bit of a whirlwind, to be honest. We’ll see – I don’t think it will be used now that the boys know that he doesn’t like it.’’
