Photos of Lorde ina stunning gold dress sitting catwalk-side at Prada’s Milan Fashion Week show might have been doing the rounds all week, but that doesn’t mean everyone knows who the pop star is yet. Case in point is quite an amusing anecdote from long-time journalist and fashionista Cathy Horyn (she’s The Cut’s fashion critic-at-large, before which she was fashion critic at the New York Times), whose review of the week-long event closed with this admission. ‘‘At the Prada store, I ran into an old friend, Preia Narendra, a senior vicepresident of marketing for the company who handles VIP relations. Preia was with a young, blonde woman who introduced herself as Ella. ‘I just wanted to say hi,’ the woman said, smiling shyly. ‘We met at a Dior dinner.’ I mumbled something blandly polite as my mind searched distant dinner tables, and then said brainlessly, ‘Oh, so nice to see you!’ Later, I saw Preia and whispered, ‘Who’s Ella?’ She smiled and said, ‘Lorde’.’’
