Protest stops coal train
Climate protesters in Dunedin yesterday stopped a coal train heading from Nightcaps in Southland to Fonterra’s processing plant in Clandeboye. The group of about a dozen Extinction Rebellion protesters took to the tracks at about 7.20am. They stood at the front and the back of the train and some even climbed into the coal carriages. Police made two arrests. Dunedin Railways cancelled an excursion train to Oamaru due to the protest.
