What to watch this week

– James Croot

Taskmaster’s New Year Treat (8.30pm, January 19, TVNZ 2)

Broadcaster Adrian Chiles, presenter Claudia Winkleman, Paralympian Jonnie Peacock, TV personality Lady Leshurr and businesswoman member of the House of Lords Sayeeda Warsi are the five famous British faces brought together by Greg Davies’ Taskmaster for this second ‘‘annual’’ standalone special. The quintet will all be put through their paces via a series of ludicrous challenges supervised by Davies’ devoted sidekick, assistant and statistics keeper ‘‘Little’’ Alex Horne.

Munich: The Edge of War (January 21, Netflix)

Jeremy Irons, George MacKay, Sandra Huller and Jessica Brown Findlay star in this pre-World War II thriller based on the 2017 novel by Robert Harris. Set during the negotiations for the 1938 Munich Agreement between Adolf Hitler and Neville Chamberlain, the story is told through the eyes of two former university friends turned civil servants – one German and one English. ‘‘It works as a character drama, espionage thriller, and brilliantly produced showcase of the period’s political hierarchy,’’ wrote MovieWeb’s Julian Roman, while Screen Daily’s Fionnuala Halligan thought that ‘‘Munich… proves, as if 1917 or True History Of The Kelly Gang weren’t enough, that George MacKay can carry a big, muscular film in his wake’’.

Ozark (January 21, Netflix)

The first of two seven-episode ‘‘parts’’ that make up the fourth and final season of this critically acclaimed, beloved crime drama opens with freedom from the cartel seemingly within reach for Jason Bateman’s Marty and Laura Linney’s Wendy. However, fraying familial bonds may prove to be the Byrdes’ ultimate undoing.
