Three of the best things to do in Golden Bay

NELSONTASMAN.NZ

Labyrinth Rocks Park

A friend describes it as a cross between Jurassic Park and a fairytale, two concepts that don’t normally go together. But visit this Ta¯kaka attraction and you will see what she means. There are limestone outcrops, native bush, and paths that criss-cross their way through this park that contains some of the best known examples of karst geology in the southern hemisphere.

Golden Bay Kayaks

Head to the quieter, northern end of Abel Tasman National Park for a paddle. Golden Bay Kayaks offers guided tours and independent kayak and stand up paddleboard rentals. Check out the Tata Islands, ecologically the most significant in the park for flora and fauna, including little spotted shags, rare reef heron and, if you are lucky, korora¯ (little blue penguin).

Anatoki Salmon

Keeping the aquatic theme going, head to Lake Anatoki to catch your lunch. Anatoki Salmon is, as the name suggests, a salmon farm where they will supply the fishing gear for you to land ‘‘the big one’’. Chefs in the on-site cafe will cook or smoke the premium chinook salmon for you while you enjoy a coffee or feed the eels.
