Stuff Digital Edition

THE THINGS I LOVE THE MOST WERE NOT NEW WHEN THEY CAME TO ME.

I think the chance element of finding something great secondhand makes those things more precious. I bought this [Bauhaus] dress from a shop on Cuba St that’s no longer there. The geometric shape of the dress and the folksy woodblock print remind me of early Bauhaus when they were in their handicraft period. But the fabric under the arms has shattered and I tried to darn it but did a shonky job so have now stopped wearing it.

I found a jumper at the Red Cross in Taupō. The label says Kenzo – Jungle. I would say it’s from the 1990s? There seems to be a reference to digital graphics in the way those fragments of patterns are dissolving against the black. Plus, the plastic gems are pretty hilarious. My boyfriend disparagingly refers to this as my Christmas jumper.

The 1960s and 1970s polyester dresses that I own will probably outlive humanity.
