BLURRED VISION Type 2 diabetes

WHAT IT MAY MEAN:

According to Diabetes UK, type 2 diabetes can lead to high levels of blood sugar that cause the lens of the eye to swell. This can result in blurred eyesight. Edmonds says it can affect one eye (unilateral blurred vision) or both (bilateral blurred vision), and can come and go. Blurred vision can also occur when blood sugar drops, in which case it should return to normal when blood glucose levels are restored.

WHAT TO DO: Don’t ignore it. “It is important to get any blurring of vision checked to rule out diabetes or other possible causes, such as cataracts or macular degeneration,” Edmonds says. “Sudden onset blurry vision can be a sign of a stroke, particularly if accompanied by slurred speech or dropping of the face, and requires immediate medical attention.”
