What to watch this week

– James Croot

Willow (Wednesday, Disney+)

Based on a partly NZ-shot 1988 fantasy movie, this eight-episode ‘‘sequel’’ will continue the adventure set in a magical world of mystical creatures. Warwick Davis returns as the eponymous pint-sized sorcerer, now part of an unlikely group of heroes off on a dangerous world-saving quest far beyond their home.

Mass (Thursday, iTunes and other rental services)

After a clever piece of lighthearted misdirection, this emotion-filled, four-handed tale settles down into a gripping single-location drama, as two sets of parents try to resolve – and maybe even absolve – the hurt that has come between them. Ann Dowd, Martha Plimpton, Jason Isaacs and Reed Birney quite brilliantly keep you guessing the outcome of their ‘‘discussions’’ until the final frames.

Lady Chatterley’s Lover (Friday, Netflix)

The Crown’s Emma Corrin and Unbroken’s Jack O’Connell star in this latest version of DH Lawrence’s classic 1928 novel about an unhappily married aristocrat who begins a torrid affair with her gamekeeper. ‘‘A romantic, enthralling adaptation that boasts... an eroticism that has been missing from the romance genre lately,’’ wrote Screen Rant’s Mae Abdulbaki.
