Tragic end to search

A body was found in the water yesterday afternoon near Opoutere Beach, north of Whangamata¯, on the Coromandel Peninsula. It ends the search for a teenager who disappeared in the surf while swimming with his family on January 18. Members of the Cruickshank family from Hawke’s Bay were swept out to sea in rough conditions on January 18 and Ian Cruickshank, an orchardist, was pulled from the surf but could not be revived. His son, 15-year-old Samuel Cruickshank, had been missing.
