WINTER WARMERS

Style editor Zoe Walker Ahwa has the best coats for the season.

“Woman who wishes she could be a stylish coat lady unfortunately a disgusting hoodie gremlin,” read a headline on The Betoota Advocate, a satire site that parodies everyday observations – and this one nailed it. Well-tailored outerwear – that is, not a proper coat, not a puffer jacket – can seem like it’s made for someone with a certain kind of life, and that probably comes down to the structure, the instant elegance it adds and the cost. The phrase “investment purchase” is overused, but a well-made coat, while expensive, is likely to become one of those pieces that makes you happy just by pulling it on, and will be in your wardrobe for years. The trick is to take care of it – hang it well, ensure it’s dried and aired and store it properly.
