Bloomfield catches Covid-19 overseas

Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield, who has led the country through the pandemic, has caught Covid-19 while in Geneva. The Ministry of Health yesterday confirmed he had tested positive for the virus while attending the World Health Assembly, a meeting of the World Health Organisation, while in Geneva, Switzerland. He was now self-isolating in the city, and had mild symptoms. His return to New Zealand would be delayed, the ministry said. Health Minister Andrew Little, who also attended the assembly, left Geneva earlier this week. ‘‘Both were following all appropriate health precautions,’’ the ministry said.
