Sea levels will stay high for millennia: scientists

Global warming has progressed so far that sea level rises are now unavoidable, the world’s leading climate scientists will warn in a landmark report released tomorrow. The paper was produced by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), a group assembled by the UN to monitor and assess all global science related to climate change. Extracts from a draft version of the report say there is now ‘‘high confidence’’ that sea levels ‘‘will remain elevated for thousands of years’’, even if the world starts cutting emissions now.
