Adams’ team sacks coach

Steven Adams’ New Orleans Pelicans are on the hunt for a new head coach after firing Stan Van Gundy on the back of one unsuccessful season with the NBA franchise. The Pelicans confirmed they had parted ways with Van Gundy over ‘‘philosophical differences’’, with the New Orleans outfit going 31-41 over the 2020-21 season and missing a spot in the play-in tournament. The Pelicans picked up Adams in an off-season trade and immediately signed him to a two-year US$35 million extension. But the 27-year-old Kiwi had a largely ineffective season, averaging 7.6 points and 8.9 rebounds, while shooting 61 per cent from the floor and just 44 per cent from the free-throw line.
