Policies to heal land

Last weekend Jack Tame interviewed Jim Bolger, who was refreshing and inspired. Bolger encouraged the National Party to find a leader who was prepared to think outside the square. When there is extreme poverty and excessive wealth, that is the breeding ground for revolution. He cited Marilyn Waring’s work on this topic.

Tame joked later that Bolger sounded like he was recommending Chlo¨ e Swarbrick for leader of National.

Also Lloyd Geering was reported as saying (Geering’s new battleground, Nov 22), climate change is the ‘‘defining issues of our generation’’. I have been inspired by our Labour

Government and Jacinda Ardern, and her extraordinary leadership with compassion through many crises in our country.

I would be inspired again if we can develop a strategy for healing our land and rebalancing ecosystems and environments. The Covid pandemic becomes an opportunity to change and grow. Listen to all our people. Base our success not on money but on health and wellbeing.

Stop the 100% clean and green delusion. Stop buying carbon credits. This is an opportunity to change. As environmental activist Joanna Macy says, ‘‘It is not business as usual.’’
