Cultural cringe

We heard on yesterday’s Morning Report programme that RNZ has contracted out a new theme from Australia.

This is a publicly funded New Zealand organisation . . . and to that end RNZ should have used the creative resources here in this country in the field of sonic arts.

Victoria University School of Music is recognisedworldwide for its leadership in this field, having produced international artists like John Psathas and Tan Dun.

This is cultural cringe at its worst. The sooner we have a true New Zealand approach to RNZ’s content the better.
