Newchief of ministry

Laulu Mac Leauanae is the newsecretary for culture and heritage and chief executive of the Ministry for Culture and Heritage. Leauanae is currently the secretary for Pacific peoples and chief executive at the Ministry for Pacific Peoples, a position he’s held since 2017. The ministry supports many arts, media, heritage and sports organisations, advises government on cultural matters and provides research and resources. Awide range of cultural experiences are delivered through organisations the ministry funds. Leauanae will provide strategic leadership to achieve better cultural outcomes. He is of Sāmoan descent and has extended family connections with the villages of Fa’ala, Iva and Sa’anapu. His matai title Laulu is from Fa’ala where itwas bestowed in a traditional saofa’i ceremony in 2010. He has been appointed for five years from October 17.
