Martinborough boutique winery for sale

A Martinborough boutique winery and hospitality venue is for sale, offering the opportunity to acquire the property and business assets of a thriving enterprise in a popular tourist location.

Just 75 minutes’ drive from Wellington, Martinborough has developed an international reputation for its wine and for offering domestic and international visitors the best of town and country.

The property, Colombo Martinborough, located at 107 Todds Rd, sits just off the town’s golden mile and is easily accessible from Martinborough Square.

Colombo has established a reputation for producing small quantities of elegant and expressive hand-crafted wines. In recent years, the business has evolved from a winery cellar door operation into a thriving and successful hospitality business, offering an attractive combination of wines and pizza, which are all made onsite.

Mike Laven, rural and agribusiness special projects director at Colliers, said Colombo Martinborough was a highly desirable purchasing opportunity that would appeal to a wide range of buyers. ‘‘Colombo Martinborough is recognised as one of the leading wine and food hospitality experiences in the area.’’

He said the business had seen impressive growth during the past four years, with total annual revenue more than doubling in that period despite restrictions on trading due to Covid-19.

The property has a total land area of 2.041 hectares with a 1.6-ha pinot noir vineyard that was planted in 1999. The purpose-built winery and cellar door was constructed in 2014 and offers indoor seating for up to 100 people and an expansive outdoor area.

There is also a commercial kitchen with a pizza oven and

walk-in chiller as well as a twobedroom vineyard house with a separate sleepout.

The business assets include winery equipment, vineyard plant and equipment, wine and food inventory, and the Colombo brand and intellectual property.

‘‘There is now an opportunity

for new owners to build on the strong foundations that have been built during the past eight years,’’ Laven said.

‘‘As almost all wine sales have been made directly to purchasers who have enjoyed their experience at Colombo there is significant goodwill associated with the brand.

Laven said the property and business offered considerable opportunities for future development, with potential to expand the wine sales operation by exporting the wine internationally, and to enhance on-site production with further investment.

‘‘Martinborough’s reputation as

a top-tier wine producer has seen capital investment from across New Zealand and offshore. This opportunity should appeal to overseas investors as the Colombo land area is under 5ha, which means they will not need to secure approval from the Overseas Investment Office.’’
