Closing off

My apologies, Red Sapwell (Letters, Oct 27) and others.

I should have made clear that when I wrote of closing off the South Island, I meant that this should be only with regard to those who wish to wander back and forth, regardless of the fact that they are not protected against ‘the bug’.

I assumed this was clear from the context of what I wrote.

Clearly, we cannot halt commerce, nor would we wish to do so.
