He’s needed now

Au contraire, Dave Britten, au contraire (Wizard’s time done, Letters, Oct 26).

If ever a time was needed for our Wizard, it is now, in a grey-suited world devoid of colour and pageantry, magic and madness. Give me the value and cost of a wizard on the public purse over anything in the council’s ‘formerly Vertical Capital Delivery Plan’ any day of the week.

Previously such treacherous talk would have been responded to by the 1st Canterbury Light Infantry, but I fear their casualties have been great.

However, all is not lost. The Sydenham Socialist & Motorcycle Enthusiast Society hereby steps forward to offer refuge to the Wizard in the magnificent borough of Sydenham, away from the ingratitude of intellectual dwarves.

Sydenham, a place where the words of Fred Cooke, Ted and Mabel Howard, the great Norman Kirk ... where was I? Oh yes.

The society will gladly provide ‘proper’ cups of tea and custard squares at our Friday lunches any time the Wizard wishes to attend.

Greg Byrnes, for the Sydenham Socialist & Motorcycle Enthusiast Society, Waltham
