Move freely with Muscle People Physio

No two people are the same, which means every physiotherapy session needs to be tailored to the individual for best results.

It’s a simple philosophy that Muscle People Physiotherapy puts into practice, offering cutting-edge treatments and programmes adapted to each client’s needs.

Established in 1998, Muscle People Physiotherapy has evolved alongside new technology and research to bring Canterbury services including functional training, head and migraine clinics, acupuncture and sports physiotherapy.

Many wellness programmes are available, including back/ core strengthening, corporate health sessions and work injuries programmes.

Preventative screenings are provided to identify a body’s predisposition to injury.

Laurie Moore, Muscle People director, founder and physiotherapist says its mission is to help whoever walks in gain a better quality of life.

Clinics in Bishopdale, Wigram Skies and central Christchurch are designed to accommodate all comers.

‘‘It’s not production-line physio,’’ Laurie explains.

‘‘We spend time getting to know our clients because it’s important they feel comfortable and supported. Our physiotherapists are highly experienced and constantly upskilling and helping each other. They can guide you through techniques to help manage your risks and prevent injury, and help with your muscles, joints, tendons, and ligaments so you can move with freedom and confidence.

‘‘We have access to doctors, nurses, therapists, psychologists, gym instructors, nutritionists, exercise physiologists and coaches, so we’re very well equipped.’’

Muscle People’s multidisciplinary team caters for people of all ages and lifestyles, including adults, children, rehab patients, tactical athletes – people in the police or fire service, for example – and those in occupations prone to causing injury. Their support extends to lodging claims with ACC on a client’s behalf.

‘‘We want to help people recover faster,’’ Laurie says.

‘‘We also look beyond a specific injury or disease process so we can offer guidance on injury prevention and goal setting. Support is regularly provided to businesses for assessments and ongoing care of staff, across Canterbury.’’

INNOVATIVE PRACTICES

Muscle People Physiotherapy has been offering biomechanical assessment programmes based on the latest evidence on back pain and sports-specific biomechanical rehabilitation. Muscle People is proud to be offering these for over 20 years and it’s an exciting example of innovative services on offer, Laurie says.

To keep Muscle People up to date with such developments, the company aligns itself with international organisations that share knowledge and research.

‘‘This collaborative approach with our colleagues in other parts of the world is crucial to our success as a team. Being part of the YMCA and Wigram Health further enhances our services to Canterbury.’’

To manage the risk of Covid19, Muscle People Physiotherapy has strong infection control procedures in line with all official guidance.

They also have ‘Telehealth’, so clients who don’t want to visit can continue physio online.

Telehealth lets people connect remotely with their physiotherapist through special secure software on a device, so whatever is happening, pain and limited movement can still be remedied by Muscle People.
