One dead as two trucks collide near Christchurch

A person has died and another is moderately injured after a collision between two trucks forced the closure of State Highway 1 south of Christchurch. The collision of a truck and light truck happened at the intersection of Main South Rd (State Highway 1) and Rolleston Drive in Rolleston about 7.20am yesterday. The driver of the light truck, a man, died at the scene. Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokeswoman Lyn Crosson said crews from Rolleston, Burnham and Lincoln were sent to the crash. They rescued a person trapped inside one of the trucks just after 8am, she said. The highway was closed, with diversions in place, but reopened by 12.40pm. The police serious crash unit is investigating.
