I’m surprised Ian Badger claims Europe had 100 war-free years prior to World War I! The Franco-German war of 1870 was Otto von Bismarck’s ‘‘blood and iron’’ aggression to unify Germany into the second Reich. Spain was at war with the United States in 1898.
