Security forces arrest niece of ayatollah

Iranian security forces have arrested the niece of the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei after she spoke out in favour of the ousted pro-Western royal family. Farideh Moradkhani, an activist who campaigns for the abolition of the death penalty, was detained on Friday outside her house and taken to the notorious Evin prison, according to the Human Rights Activists’ News Agency of Iran. The 35-year-old has been a thorn in the side of Ayatollah Khamenei’s family for many years by campaigning for liberal causes.
