Your story Trusts given help to own buildings (August 12), about gifting the McFarlane Park community centre to the Shirley Community Trust quotes the council spokesman as saying the buildings were surplus to the council’s requirements and implies an old building fit for disposal. It is a modern building, a joint project between Christchurch City Council and Lions Clubs International Foundation.

This building was donated by Lions clubs as part of the postearthquake investment in this city, as were several other partnership projects between Lions and the Christchurch City Council.
