Rise of nationalism
There’s a groundswell of not quite patriotism with love of country, but nationalism with superiority of ethnicity and religion.
But it’s morphed in Western societies into neo-nationalism with authoritarianism favouring just one race – theirs to the exclusion to all others.
It’s reared its ugly head with Trump and now in Italy with Giorgio Meloni, a mirror of Mussolini with desires that the people in Italy should all speak Italian – even Muslims in their mosques.
I see that ignorance expressed here, with an intolerance of Māori language which is gaining a foothold in social media.
Not good.
I fear our Right-Wing politicians are sitting back letting the racist voters attach to their parties.
