Lights not so dumb
It is very obvious from Ian Gardiner’s letter (Sept 29) that he has never taken the time to explore the myriad and excellent cycleways we health-conscious people have the pleasure of using. I am a regular cyclist and use these lanes all the time.
I can assure Ian that the detectors in the road certainly do detect cyclists. On my regular route I seldom have to stop and wait for the lights to change in my favour.
In a past life I spent some years working for Harding Signals, coding the programmes for traffic light controllers, so I amvery familiar with the capabilities of these clever devices. After 20 or so years they will only have improved immeasurably.
The use of AI will only enhance an already clever device.
