Farmer-bashing tiresome

In response to Sue Piercey and the price of cabbages (Letters, Sept 24), serious question... did she do any research at all before making her statement that cabbages cost $8.99, therefore land use should change?

Did she ask the grower of those cabbages how much he himself got paid and what his profit was and his journey to get that cabbage to market?

In response to Bill Newsom and the price of cheese (Letters, Sept 24), try asking your supermarket owner.

Fact: at time of typing this, farmers get approximately $8.60 per kilo paid for a whole cattle beast.

Certainly nothing like $18 per kilo for mince or $40 per kilo for steak.

This farmer-bashing is tiresome. While you’re feeding yourself, do some research on how farmers are paid, ie we are told what we are getting. Once it’s left the farm gate, the price consumers pay has nothing to dowith the grower.
