Treatment of mothers

Flip Grater (Imagine the dairy sell in ‘23, May 29) states that cows are the most brutally treated mothers in the country.

She clearly has never walked into Women’s Refuge, spent time with an ambulance crew or worked with the Salvation Army. And she has also never spent time on a dairy farm. She uses emotive, sensationalised and anthropomorphic language to discuss the life of a dairy cow. I invite her to visit my farm to meet reality.

I also suggest she does her homework before blaming dairy cows for the degradation of our waterways. The majority of NZ Councils have failed compliance on discharge (ie urban-dwelling people’s waste) into local streams and rivers.
