NZ hates change
Opposition to bilingual road signs is not all racism, it is also that we hate change. For 20 years, between the 70s and 90s, traffic engineers lobbied for the change from right-turners at intersections having right of way to vice versa.
When the government eventually approved it, many thought the world would end, but the whole issue fizzled out.
Hating change seriously holds us back as a society. It is nothing more than selfish thoughtlessness and laziness.
