Submissions from young in favour

While some in our city vocally argue that the new PC14 zoning rules will be unfit for purpose, it should be remembered that of the in-person submissions given to council during their vote, half were explicitly in favour, several given by young people.

The persons represented in the pair of Press articles on May 30 – Residents seek pause on housing density plans until election and Policy U-turn makes Christchurch’s housing density a live election issue (Mike Yardley’s column) represent only the most vocally opposed, while in younger generations and those with families, submissions are heavily in favour.

As a city, do we only listen to those who think they have a self-given mandate to speak or are we no longer a society that is inclusive of all views?
