Local rider Hunter Gough will be hoping for better luck in the tour this year, as his debut last year was cut short by a crash on stage 1 resulting in two broken arms. He has had a good season on the road, taking numerous podium placings including first in the Milford Mountain Classic, second in Around Lake Dunstan, second in the Fight for Yellow, and numerous other top ten finishes. Sam Clark has competed in various endurance sports for almost two decades including ultramarathon, swim-run, kayaking, expedition racing, multisport, Ironman and cycling events. He has four Coast to Coast wins to his name, and last competed in the tour in 2014. ‘Chris Dufton is based out of Queenstown where he has been road racing, mountain biking, touring, Zwifting, snowboarding, cross country skiing, and generally getting into the mountains whenever possible.

David McCormick is a local civil engineer, and Cycling Southland board member, who rates his biggest cycling achievement as completing the SBS Bank Tour of Southland in 2019. Morgan Borrie is another local lad, and will be taking on his first Tour of Southland this year, after racing his final Yunca Junior Tour of Southland a couple of weeks ago, and taking a stage win in the process. Steve Rhodes rode his first tour in 2019 as a bucket list item, but is back again this year, even though he considers that it may well be his last hit out, as he turns 53 in December.
