Ollie Jones is a rider on a mission this year, having tasted some success in the tour before. Fifth overall in 2020, and Jesco King of the Mountains winner in 2019, Ollie will have his eyes set firmly on the podium this year. After years of enjoying the tour from the convoy, Mitchel Fitzsimons is finally old enough to compete. A key part of his training has been spent riding his bike indoors in MIQ after returning from the Junior Road Race World Championships in Belgium, and he is one to watch in the sprints. They will be ably supported by the experienced Paul Odlin, a multiple winner of the Stonewood Homes Silver Jersey, and former New Zealand and Oceania time trial champion. Kiaan Watts has just returned from an extensive racing programme in Europe, where he went toe to toe with World Tour riders. As a junior world champions in the Madison in 2019, and with a fourth place in the Elite criterium national championships to his name, he is one to watch in the fast finishes. As an Invercargill local, Robert Huisman brings valuable local knowledge to the team. Josh Haggerty is a local rider competing in his 8th Tour of Southland. Josh has previously raced in Europe for the Champion Systems Continental Team. Josh’s experience and knowledge of the local roads will invaluable to the team.
