Bridges’ son to be in hospital for ‘a few days’

National MP Simon Bridges’ son is in Starship Hospital recovering from an injury. The incident, which occurred around midday Thursday, involved Bridges’ son Harry, 7, being hit by a swing at his school. The knock is understood to have caused internal bleeding. He was initially taken to Tauranga Hospital before being airlifted to Starship Children’s Hospital in Auckland. ‘‘He will stay at Starship for a few days, but we are confident for a full recovery and very grateful for all the support we’ve received,’’ Bridges said yesterday. Bridges missed a press conference on Thursday at which new National leader Christopher Luxon announced him as the party’s finance spokesman and number three. After the accident on Thursday, Bridges tweeted that, ‘‘Today my son Harry had a bad accident with a swing at school. Natalie and I want to thank all the amazing staff at Tauranga and Starship hospitals for all they’re doing. While it is serious, Harry should be ok.’’
