Blooming with enthusiasm

Winton Garden Club president Dorothy Fleming, left, and club chief steward Janice Coles admire the blooms of the 39th annual Winton Spring Flower Show, which began yesterday and continues today. Flower show convener Daphne Batt said five growers had submitted 400 entries, the most entries ever. ‘‘It looks amazing,’’ Batt said. One flower can be an entry, but some entries are three flowers together, she said. The event is at the Winton Memorial Hall. The $5 entry price covered the cost of the show, and the show was open from 9am to 3pm, Batt said. Kind weather had borne a good growing season, in particular ‘‘eye-catching’’ golden daffodils, she said.
