CPR saves man’s life

A man’s life was saved by emergency service crews who performed CPR on him after his vehicle rolled in the Waitaki District on Thursday night. Fire service spokesperson Mau Barbara said crews from Otematata, Kurow, Duntroon and Ō amaru responded to the single vehicle crash on State Highway 83, in Waikaura about 8pm. ‘‘One male patient was injured, and the crews performed CPR,’’ Barbara said. An ambulance crew arrived shortly after and took over CPR while fire crews prepared a landing zone for a rescue helicopter, he said.A St John spokesperson said one rapid response vehicle and one helicopter responded. ‘‘St John treated then transported one patient in a moderate condition to Dunedin Hospital by air ambulance.’’
