Sausage sizzle for Lucas

A sausage sizzle was held in Timaru yesterday to raise money for 7-year-old Lucas McLean who has relapsed two years after finishing treatment for T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Lucas was first diagnosed with cancer as a 2-year-old and underwent 31⁄2 years of chemotherapy treatment, and was two years post-treatment when it was discovered his cancer had returned ‘‘with a vengeance’’, his mother Melanie Richards said. Yesterday, the team at Mike Pero Real Estate Timaru held a fundraiser at Strathallan Corner to raise money for Lucas. Those who could not buy a sausage were encouraged to make a donation to his Givealittle page, which has raised $18,460. Katie Collins, left, and Lee Johns are seen selling the sausages.
