Three Waters

The ill-advised and last-minute entrenchment clause to the Three Waters Entities Bill would require a super majority of Parliament of 60% to allow the Three Waters entities to sell or otherwise dispose of water assets.

If it becomes part of the Three Waters law, and it may yet be thrown out, it would also require any future government to have a super majority of 60% to return water assets to the district councils, the original owners.

Super majorities are traditionally only required for major changes to constitutional law, not highly controversial operational law.
