New Level 3: What it means

Benn Bathgate

Golfers can tee off and whitebaiters can get their nets out as Waikato wakes to step 1 of alert level 3 today.

You can have guests to dinner – provided it’s in the garden and they don’t come use ‘‘indoor facilities’’.

These are among some step 1 dos and don’ts outlined on the Government’s Unite against Covid-19 website.

Much of Waikato has been in alert level 3 since early October and the Government on Tuesday announced a loosening of restrictions, akin to what’s in place in Auckland. A number of recreational pursuits are now back on the agenda for Waikato, including golf, hunting, scuba diving, jetskiing and outdoor exercise classes – provided they’re limited to 10 people. Gyms and indoor recreation facilities remain closed. Outdoor social gatherings can now also go ahead, also with a maximum of 10 people.

People from another household can come over for dinner in your backyard, but they cannot enter your house or use indoor facilities. Waikato’s next review will be on November 1.
